Speak to the Mountain

Introduction

Welcome to My Thoughts this is the fourth segment in our Words are Powerful series, Speak to the Mountain. In the previous segments, I spoke about being careful and in control of your words and how powerful God’s words are, and how they created the entire universe, including our planet. We learned when God said anything, it happened, it produces, and never returns void.

Your now thinking, “Pastor Dale you are crazy, my words hold no power, and what I say does not matter.” Never think like that. Your words as I mention a few weeks ago have the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21).

Now in this segment, I will show you how much more powerful your words are when you believe and receive, them and how your words are life-changing. Grab your Bible and turn to the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 11, and we will start with verse 19 and end with verse 25.

19 When evening had come, He went out of the city.

20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.

23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

Mountain of Faith

In verses 19-21, on their way back from the temple to Bethany, they all walked by the same fig tree Jesus cursed in Mark 11:14 and Peter looked amazed and told Him the fig tree withered away. Looking at these two verses should give you a strong clue that words are so powerful. In verse 22, Jesus says four words that we need to say and repeat every day, “Have faith in God.” Do you want to please God? Have faith in Him because, without faith, you cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Jesus continues in verse 23 to explain the power of words. He uses the word “mountain” as a metaphor to explain how you can deal with any of life’s issues. The mountain can be debt, sickness/healing, marriage needing reconciliation, family and friends needing to be saved, and certain bills paid, just to name a few. Then Jesus tells us to “throw it into the sea,” which means to give it to God and trust Him fully to take care of our needs (Philippians 4:19).

Don’t Be Faithless, BELIEVE!

The rest of the verse is very powerful and you do not want to miss this at all. When you throw your mountain into the sea, Jesus says do not doubt in your heart, but believe what you have said will come to pass, it will happen, and it will be done for you, hallelujah! Glory be to God! Very powerful!

The keyword in this and many other verses is “believe.” It is what we lack most of all. Without faith, how can you believe? Don’t forget its twin brother, “receive.” They walk hand-in-hand. You cannot have one without the other. Matthew 21:22, “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Never doubt your words, but believe, and watch your life change before your very eyes. When you believe, you will receive it!

In the last two verses, we see the desired results. Jesus finished by stating that whatever you ask in prayer, believe! See here is that word again, believe! We believe and live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). When you believe it, then you need to receive it.

Once you get these two things into your heart, believe, and receive, it will be yours, and you will see how your life will change because Jesus is the life changer, hallelujah! Verse 25 is very important. To see your mountain leave, start forgiving others. Easier said than done right? If you have any unconfessed issues against anyone, forgive them, and do not bring it up again. When you forgive, God will forgive you for your trespasses.

Have Patience with Your Faith

Having faith in your words, you will also need patience. Do not pray for patience because if and when your faith is strong, your patience will also be strengthened. Faith and patience are known as the “Power Twins.” They go together and cannot have one without the other. Hebrews 6:12, “that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” I will give you an example of what happened to me a couple of years ago.

I had a routine Doctor’s appointment. He was listening to the carotid artery on the left side of my neck and it sounded different than my right side. He felt that I had a blockage in my brain. I rebuked it in the name of Jesus. I got into the healing Scriptures. I kept saying by Jesus’ stripes I am healed (Isaiah 53:5) and by Jesus’ stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24). I got them down in my heart because faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). I believed it and I received it, in the name of Jesus!

He sent me over to have an ultrasound and could not verify any blockage. He sent me to a vascular specialist. He could not verify any blockage on the ultrasound, so he set me up with an MRI. When he saw me again after the MRI, he saw no blockage and I told him, “by Jesus’ stripes I am and were healed, Glory be to God!

The Waiting Room

We all have been in the waiting room, here are five steps you can take while waiting:

  1. Remember the Promise: Write it down and look at it every day
  2. Build your Faith: Read your Bible, listen to podcasts, or watch My Thoughts on our YouTube channel.
  3. Spend Time in Worship: Focus on God, His goodness, and attributes. Do not focus on the problem or issues.
  4. Remember Past Victories: Remind yourself of how God has been faithful to you in your victories and remind yourself of His ability to do it again.
  5. Help Someone Else: Use your testimony of what God has done for you.

While you are there in the waiting room, praise God for everything. Even if the tests do not show your mountain moving, just believe that it is moving, and see it in the sea, gone!

Conclusion

In conclusion, our words are so powerful, we can move mountains. We need faith and patience and you will see how life-changing they are and you will be singing praises to God every day. Then you will start sharing with others and watch them get healed, out of debt, bills paid, and marriages restored, amongst other things. Even when you are waiting, praise God, Amen!
