Introduction
Welcome to My Thoughts. This is the fifth segment in our Words are Powerful series. In previous My Thoughts segments, I have spoken about being careful and in control with your words, the integrity of your words, and speaking to your mountain. Today, I will discuss healing with your words.
I will be using many passages, so get your Bible and turn it to our foundation passage, Mark 16:15-20. Before I start, I will give a testimony on how I witnessed healing from a distance, because there is no time or distance in the power of prayer for healing.
Healing Testimony
One evening, my sister, who lives in Alaska, calls me, and as she is talking to me, I felt her Spirit was troubling her. She was talking to me about her friend and all the troubles she’s had because of some medical mistakes. They planned to amputate her right foot the next morning.
God got my attention quickly. Told me to start using the power and authority my Son gave you, which is the same power and authority that He gave everyone to heal the sick. My sister, wife, and I started to pray in Thanksgiving, speaking in tongues, and we rebuked Satan and the sickness in this person’s foot.
Afterward, we said through Jesus’ stripes, she is healed, and was healed over 2000 years ago when Jesus died on the cross (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24). We received a text message from my sister the next day that Doctor came in, looked at her foot, and it was healed. PRAISE JESUS! GLORY BE TO GOD!
Now onto our foundation passage, Mark 16:15-20:
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name, they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.
Remove Your Unbelief!
Jesus has risen and comes to the disciples rebuking them for their unbelief. If you want to witness healing, start believing in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of the Living God! Jesus rebuked them for not believing that He has risen from the grave.
Then He gave the disciples one specific instruction to go out to all the world and preach the Gospel to the entire creation (v. 15). He also mentions that whoever believes in the Gospel, and gets baptized, they will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be eternally condemned (v. 16).
Believe for Healing
In verses 17 and 18, Jesus told the disciples that those who believe, signs will accompany them. The word accompany is to go somewhere as a companion or be present at the same time. What were those signs?
- Cast out demons
- Speak in new tongues (1 Corinthians 14)
- Pick up serpents with their hands
- Drinking dangerous poison, will not hurt them
- Lay their hands on the sick and they will recover/healed
I do not encourage anyone to pick up a poisonous snake or drink poison in putting God to the test by putting ourselves into dangerous situations. They are metaphors used to know that we put our faith in God and he would not hurt us on purpose.
In the last two verses, Jesus ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father, and the disciple obeyed Jesus’ command preaching the Gospel to everyone seeing the signs He said would accompany them. This a very powerful passage of Scripture as it shows that we have the power and authority to heal with our words.
Study of Divine Healing
There are three major areas in the study of divine healing:
First, healing the world in the name of Jesus.
Go to Acts 3:6-7 as we see Peter talking with the lame beggar. He could not offer him anything worldly, but with the authority that Jesus gave him and us, he spoke words of healing, and as he helped the man up, his legs were healed and strong. In Matthew 13:15, Jesus gave us three steps to healing using Isaiah 42:1-3, which are having your eyes, ears, and hearts open. He said that if we do this, he will heal us.
Second, healing for the carnally-minded Christian who has little or no knowledge of the Word.
Referring to 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Paul reminds us that as long as you stay carnally minded, you will go no further in your walk with Jesus. Most think that being carnal is all about sex, but reading Hebrews 5:13-14, a carnally-minded person believes only what they can hear, taste, smell, feel, or see. That is not faith. Healing is equal to your faith or belief. As Christians, we live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Third, healing is for the believer who enjoys the fullness of Christ.
Turn to Mark 11:22-25 and that entire passage says it all. There are four very simple words that will always work for the believer, “I believe, I receive.” When you get these four simple words down in your heart, your words will be so powerful, you will be healed, and you will witness healing as my wife and I did. Remember always, the one receiving must do the believing. God has already done His part and we need to do ours. Also, forgive others so that God will forgive you for your trespasses (v. 25).
Conclusion
Your words are the most powerful thing you will ever have and must be used wisely. I cannot stress enough Proverbs 18:21 as your words are a matter of life and death. Get it down in your heart and you will witness healing with your words, Amen!
